It is 1940, and the diabolical mind of Adolf Hitler is planning to bomb England into submission to his warped dreams of a 'Fortress Europe'. Standing between Britain's freedom & Hitler's terrifying plans is the R.A.F - dedicated pilots who took to the skies again & again in the face of overwhelming odds. The German Luftwaffe's planes outnumber the R.A.F's by more than 2 to 1 - 650 planes of the R.A.F. vs. 2,500 of the Luftwaffe! These odds. however, do not deplete the determination of the R.A.F. to stop Hitler, and as the Luftwaffe launches wave after wave of Heinkel 111 bombers against British cities, the R.A.F. responds, under the leadership of Air Vice Marshal Park and Squadron Leaders Canfield and Harvey who lead the newest pilots of the R.A.F. into confrontation after confrontation with the Luftwaffe's experienced veterans, with the aim of driving Hitler's forces away from Dover's white cliffs for good… Historical reenactment of the air war in the early days of World War Two for control of the skies over Britain as the new Luftwaffe and the Royal Air Force determine whether or not an invasion can take place. If the Brits had not stayed the course, launched hundreds of Spits and Hurricanes every time Heinkels crossed the channel, the British Isles would have fallen, and the war eventually would have crossed the Atlantic to spoil vacations in Nantucket….that is the entire truth of the Battle of Britain.

How those young men of that generation steeled themselves to suffer and die in the ice cold air over the channel will always be the great mystery and miracle of the Second World War….later, American boys somehow found the courage to do the same in B-17s, B-24s, 25s, P-51s and P-47s over the heart of the Klingon Empire, or, Germany as it was known then.

That courage, that "I'm already dead" attitude was born directly from the massive threat of the Nazis, and the Luftwaffe. War-fighting today, in so many arenas, is so very distant and different than back then.

An amazingly beautiful film, with scores of actual Heinkels, Spitfires, Hurricanes and ME-109s in what for many, was their last act on Earth, THE BATTLE OF Britain is one of the 5 greatest war films ever made. I won't list them, but "Saving Private Ryan" and "Platoon" are on that list….

The Christopher Plummer/Susanna York subplot had no value other than filler and spectacular views of Miss York's legs…there are great scenes back at the Luftwaffe bases as a fighter ace tells Goring that they need Spitfires to beat the Brits…..while they sit and eat in high style in dining rooms with more empty chairs every day.

The use of radio-controlled miniatures in this film was groundbreaking, and could be a gateway to more WWII films in this day of augmentation with CGI…..we need a Spielberg-directed movie about the 8th Air Force in England…a remake of "12 O'Clock High"…… 1. I didn't care about any of the characters enough to care whether they survived the war, especially the so-called romantic couple, who fight and snark at each other so much that their love scene seems to come out of nowhere.

2. The anachronisms were outrageous. Some of the women working in the control center were wearing teased-up bouffant hair a la late '60s, while many of the RAF uniforms looked more like commercial airline pilots' uniforms.

3. There are many fine actors in this movie, but many of them seemed to be "phoning it in," especially Olivier and Redgrave.

4. There were way too many characters of which to keep track; the movie would have been much more compelling if only a few had been chosen for the subplot (and it would have helped if they were more sympathetic. All the Brits in this movie are so dashed snippy, that the German characters seem warm by comparison).

5. The music was cheesy and attempted to be manipulative. Just an awful score.

6. The sound was often not in sync, or seemed obviously to be created sound effects.

7. In battle scenes, it was often difficult to tell which fighters were German and which were British.

That said, the air fights were impressive, using real WWII planes and evoking the horrors of air combat. Maybe you could remake the movie using only the battle footage (with some new music, please), and you'd have something.

Very disappointing.
The hit United Artists film, Battle of Britain, opened in Chicago in fou rarea theatres on Friday, October 31, 1969. The film was rated "G." The RAF had been resoundingly beaten by the Luftwaffe during the opening battles of World War 2 but by 1940 had learned from their combat experiences and adjusted their tactics. The air battles in France and Norway had largely been fought by the Hurricane which was slightly inferior to its' German equivalent, the ME109. However by the time of the Battle of Britain large numbers of Spitfires were available which were slightly superior (the unofficial tactic was for Spitfires to take on the ME109s whilst the Hurricanes took on the bombers). The German aircraft were operating at the edge of their range giving them limited combat time due to lack of fuel whilst the RAF were on their home territory and had no such restrictions. German fighters were forced to escort their bombers whilst RAF fighters were free to operate independently. The RAF had primitive radar allowing them to know the time and location of German raids whilst any RAF pilots who survived being shot down would return to combat but Luftwaffe pilots would become prisoners of war. a5c7b9f00b James Bond: In Service of Nothing movie in tamil dubbed downloadRuined movie in hindi free downloadthe The Time Machine hindi dubbed free downloadCounterfeit Mask full movie in hindi 720pTallos hd full movie downloadSahara in hindi downloadMannix dubbed hindi movie free download torrentEpisode 3.4 tamil dubbed movie free downloadI erde full movie hindi downloadHeart of Karl movie in tamil dubbed download
